Marti was never interested in cameras and always asked someone else to photograph family events. After resigning from the CIA in 1999, she went back to school to study interior design, which led to graphic design which led to a required photography class. As a result of this journey, the camera has become her trusted ally and friend. Marti’s work started with the black and white darkroom, and black and white remains her first love. The goal is to do great black and white work with a digital camera and the computer.
William H. Macy, the wonderful character actor, recently said: “The scenes that require public bleeding are not nearly as difficult as the simple moments. I find the harder thing is to be brave enough to be simple”. So it is with Marti’s photography: striving to find a way to express the simple moments, the simple places and the simple objects of our world with a different set of eyes.
Marti has a BA from Georgetown University, two AAS degrees from NVCC, one in Graphic Design and one in Photography. She has studied with Cig Harvey, Norman Mauskopf and Magnum photographer, Steve McCurry. She recently went digital with the purchase of the Canon EOS 5D.
