My parents gave me a Kodak Pony 135 Model B camera as a Christmas present when I was about 13, and I have been photographing ever since. I still have the camera, and it still works.
After moving to Northern Virginia 10 years ago I joined the Manassas-Warrenton Camera Club where I have served as President and Vice-president for Programs. During that time my self-taught skills have been honed and added to by attending many workshops, particularly those conducted by Joe Miller, and by competing in club competitions and other venues. Fortunately, judges have considered many of my images worthy enough to appear in several area exhibits and shows, and one even gets bought now and then.
Although I have judged a few exhibits and non-camera club competitions and am open to judging camera club competitions occasionally, I am more interested in conducting critiques and judging juried shows and end-of-year type competitions. The combination of a degree in art history and having seen much art in my life biases my judging towards 'artistic' versus 'photographic' merits of images. Clubs should take this into consideration when considering me for an invitation to judge one of their events.
