Ruth Neubauer

I discovered my love for taking pictures in 1981 when I bought my first 35 mm camera, a Canon A-1. I still use film. None of these pictures are cropped, set up, or altered in any way.

I don’t set out to photograph anything in particular. Rather, without awareness, I find myself captivated by the unexpected and compelled by texture, light, soft color, form, and composition.

I see paintings. Sometimes in nature; sometimes created by human beings.

Fixed in a moment of time, still photographs present us with the mystery of what came before and what will happen next. For me, they suggest a mood and evoke questions, as I hope they will for you.

What you see here is a selection of what has caught my eye in various parts of the world. They are pictures of what was simply there to be seen.

I believe that my profession as a psychotherapist has enhanced my appreciation of all things seen and unseen, known and unknown. I am fascinated by the juxtaposition of inside and outside and the spaces and places in-between - liminal space.
